Yaroslavl,Russia Culture Swap! Skype #16

We are now skyping our friends from Russia!!! They are located in Yaroslavl. Yaroslavl is much older than other major cities, though it's not that large. It has beautiful scenery and is one of the oldest cities in Russia. For a few months, Yaroslavl was the capital of Russia, but not anymore! Yaroslavl is called the "capital" of Russian cities (how ironic) of the the "Golden Ring". The people of Yaroslavl also celebrate the ancient Slavic holiday, Maslenitsa. Yaroslavl has a different money currency that we do. They are on a banknote with a nominal value of 1,000 rubles. Yaroslavl also became the first Russian cities where the tram line was laid in 1900. The first diesel engine, a trolleybus and a truck where the first in Russia to be produced. There is a historical center in Yaroslavl that has 140 architectural monuments, and it is a UNESCO world heritage site. In 2003, Yaroslavl was awarded the European Union flag for the city's contribution to the development of foreign policy relations, and the Global Policy Forum was in Yaroslavl in 2011. The first woman cosmonaut, Valentina Tereshkova traveled to space in 1963, and lived in Yaroslavl. We are very lucky to have our friends skype to us!!! Thank you for letting us skype with you! :D
